Southwest Companion Pass: FAQ

Okay so you earned your pass!! Congratulations!!

Now I'm sure you want to know how to use it. Read below:

  1. The first thing you need to do is designate a companion. To do this, you will need to log into your Rapid Rewards account, go to the "Snapshot" tab, click "Your Companion" and then "Enter Companion Info"

Note: You can only have 1 designated companion at a time and can change this a

maximum of 3 times per calendar year so choose wisely!

2. The next thing to do is book your flight. You will want to book everyone on it except for the companion. To use all of the points that you accumulated, make sure you are logged into your Rapid Rewards account, search for the flight you want (and you can see how many points it cost if you switch from $ to points on the top right) and book that flight.

Note: You will have to pay the security fee of like $11 per passenger - you can't pay this with points.

3. After booking the flight, go to "My Trips", find your upcoming flight and click "Add Companion". [You will still have to pay that $11 fee for your companion too]

4. Enjoy your flight!!

Other notes:

Southwest prices sometimes fluctuate so if you occasionally check the prices, you may find that one day it is suddenly cheaper. You can then go to "Change flight" and change it to the exact same flight that costs less points and get some of your points back.

Southwest has a "birthday" on June 18 and usually that whole week they have specials on a lot of flights or things are way cheaper or whatever so you may want to book stuff at this time or at least double check that you got your flights for the least amount of points
